Are Schedules for You?
Before diving into the real thing, you need to know if a schedule is for you. I’ve met different people who don’t like to have a schedule. They love their freedom even if they are a bit lost. Thus, if you don’t like:
To feel restricted
Having a lot of structure.
Feeling annoyed by having already set what to do.
You can skip this article. Soon I’ll write one for simple planning and organization for those of you that want something simple. Yet, I invite you to keep reading and take away what serves you.
Why You should have a Schedule?
Although, not necessary, it’s a good tool to organize your day. This way, you can dedicate focused time to work on your projects, new skills or spending time with family or friends. Also, even when others think a schedule is too strict and hard, it can be flexible. It’s everything about how you use the tool.
For short: If you want to get more structure in your days, feel in control, and having time for all what you want. Then for sure a schedule will be helpful for you.
Also, this will help you to:
Be more productive. When you have a schedule, you already know what you are going and when. There’s no room for procrastination.
Have space for all what you want, either going out with friends, working on a new project or learning a new skill.
Achieve your goals. As I mentioned before, you will have time for what matters to you. Including your goals and as a result you’ll be able to achieve them.
How do I make my schedules on Notion Calendar?
You can follow along with paper too. However, put your schedule in a place you can see it often, since you won’t have digital reminders like using this app.
Before I start to put anything on my calendar, I reflect on the things I want to do. So I make a brain dump of things I want to do, things I have to do. Additionally, I check the goals I wrote at the beginning of the year. Choose one and think about what could I do to work towards it during the week.
Non-negotiables: After having a list of things I have and want to do. I make another list about things that are untouchable. For example: your meals, breaks, maybe workout or time with family, you name it. These are your non-negotiables activities that help you to have a healthy mind and body.
Bring in the calendar: You can use a template, or any other app of calendar. Today I chose Notion Calendar for this post. Open the app and start by setting your non-negotiables. Then, move to the tasks and think about how long would take you to complete them. Based on the time you think you need, set them in the calendar with that amount of time and a little more just in case.

Pro-tip: Most likely you'll be able to classify theses tasks. You can give them a colour to each of them, so it's more organized. You can divide them in: Projects, work, studies, personal, business, etc.
Don’t forget to be specific if your tasks are repetitive, set them to appear weekly, monthly or daily (whatever suits you). And now you have your schedule done. You should see it daily to see what you have to do, you can also take the list you made before to tick tasks.
Pro-tip: At the end of the week you can tweak your schedule, see if there was too much time for any tasks, or vice versa. It’s okay to make changes.
Tips to follow a Schedule
Although, I'm pretty sure you know how to follow a schedule since surely you went to school. However, if you still struggle with it let me give you some tips.
Check your schedule from time to time during the day, so you keep in mind what you have to do.
When making your schedule remember to make balance and find time to rest, let’s avoid burnout.
Give yourself extra time, if you need to finish a task but the time you set finished already, keep going. Give you more time this is your schedule. You can make it in your own way. Sometimes this won’t be possible, yet try it, don’t give up.
